EQ - The Manager's Tool for Professional Excellence

Introduction

It is said that IQ (Intelligence Quotient) will get you hired, but EQ (Emotional Quotient) will keep you there and get you promoted. For years, people have assumed that successful people were basically very smart and hardworking. Studies have found that while there is some correlation between IQ and success, it by no means explains why some people with high IQs can fail in a job, while others perform exceptionally well despite average intelligence. A growing body of research suggests that emotional intelligence, measured by emotional quotient (EQ), is a better predictor of "success" than the more traditional measures of cognitive intelligence (IQ). Emotional Intelligence is not about being soft, emotional and "nice". It is about being effective, and knowing how to communicate and work effectively.
